Blue Card in Spain

The Blue Card Spain visa, regulated under the EU Blue Card Directive (Directive 2009/50/EC) and integrated into Spanish law through the Royal Decree 557/2011 and Organic Law 4/2000 (as amended by Organic Law 2/2009), is designed for non-EU nationals who seek to engage in high-skilled employment within the country. 

The Spain blue card permit not only facilitates living and working across the European Union but is also aimed at attracting international talent in technical or highly qualified positions, subject to annual national quotas. The visa is designed for:

• Non-EU nationals, ensuring compliance with Spanish immigration law, specifically under Royal Decree 557/2011 and Organic Law 4/2000 as amended.
• Individuals with a job contract in a highly qualified profession, adhering to the criteria set out in the EU Blue Card Directive and Spanish regulations.
• Those able to demonstrate higher education or professional experience as per the qualifications required under the aforementioned legal framework.

• Non-EU citizenship, with no criminal record and no entry ban to Spain, in line with Organic Law 4/2000.
• A highly qualified job contract, meeting the standards defined in Royal Decree 557/2011.
• Compliance with the conditions for an initial residence and work permit as stipulated in Spanish law.

• Employer Initiates Application: Starting with the employer's application in Spain, as per procedures outlined in Royal Decree 557/2011.
• Visa Application by Worker: Following approval, the worker applies for a visa at the Spanish consulate, based on the criteria established in Organic Law 4/2000.
• Arrival and Residence Card Acquisition: The worker secures the Blue Card upon arrival, in accordance with the administrative processes set forth in Spanish immigration law.

• Legal work and residence within the EU, facilitated by compliance with the EU Blue Card Directive and Spanish legal provisions.
• Inclusion of direct family members, as allowed under Spanish immigration laws.
• Free movement within the EU, a right granted after 18 months of residence, in line with EU regulations.

• Validity ranging from 1 to 4 years, depending on the host country, with Spain offering a validity as per the guidelines in Royal Decree 557/2011.
• Enables the inclusion of direct family members, adhering to the provisions in Organic Law 4/2000.
• Facilitates free movement within the EU, pursuant to EU and Spanish legislation on the Blue Card.
